Red Dot honour for Garmont ski boot

21/03/2011
Performance footwear brand Garmont, which specialises in boots and shoes for skiing, mountaineering, hiking, trail running and other outdoor pursuits, has annonuced that its Masterlite ski mountaineering boot has received one of the most coveted design prizes in the world: the red dot award.

Built for hard-core ski mountaineers who choose to go ultra-light whether touring or racing, the Masterlite is solid-skiing and easy to use, Garmont says. It is inspired by nature, in particular by leaves, which are extremely light but can resist rain and snow thanks to their web-like reticular structure, the Pebax WebFrame shell of the boot is reduced to its critical elements for a solid structure with ultralight weight. The sole structure is stiff, springy and supportive.

Product manager, Paul Parker, commented: “We are very proud of this international accolade which is testimony to our passion for clean, innovative product design and recognition of our commitment to offering our customers best-in-class products designed to enhance outdoor performance.”

More than 1,000 guests from the world of design, industry, society and media will celebrate the winners of the red dot design award on July 4th 2011 in Essen, Germany. Winning products, including the Masterlite boot, will then be on public display during a four-week special exhibition “Design on stage – winners red dot award: product design 2011” in the red dot design museum at the world heritage site of the Zeche Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen.
