Sportswear firm which uses plastic to make polyester wins award
A US-based company that makes sportswear out of waste has won an entrepreneurship awards for 2011 from the Hartford Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs group, receiving $1,000.
LiveProud Sportswear, based in New Britain, was founded in May 2010, and makes polyester sportswear with custom logos from colleges or other customers. The process uses discarded plastic bottles and other materials, including coconut shells, to make the garments, using US-based contractors.
“If it’s in the trash right now we’ll take it and turn it into clothing,” co-founder Charlie Bogoian said.
