REI opens new California store
Outdoor apparel and equipment retailer REI (Recreational Equipment Incorporated) has opened a new store in Dublin, California. Public figures including Dublin Mayor Tim Sbranti, along with other special guests, congregated on 27 October, 2011 at the new store for an exclusive preview.
REI’s arrival in the city has been in the works for over a decade. “We have been trying to get REI here for 12 years,” said Mayor Sbranti. The opening of the Dublin REI store represents the realisation of a vision held by 42,500 REI members who live within a 15-mile radius of the store.
The one-storey store will provide gear and apparel for camping, climbing, cycling, fitness, hiking, paddling, snow sports and travel products. REI Dublin will also have a bike shop for quick assemblies and repairs, and a seasonal gear rental department.
“REI has been honoured to outfit outdoor enthusiasts in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1975 through our store in Berkeley,” said Tim Spangler, REI’s vice president of retail. “The Dublin store will provide us the opportunity to bring our friendly expertise and quality outdoor products closer to the more than 42,500 active REI members who live within 15 miles of the new location.” REI Dublin is the company’s 119th store.
