Pelé Sports puts special foam in football boot

02/04/2012
Foam manufacturer Zotefoams has supplied its new lightweight thermoplastic elastomer PebaxFoam material to German sports footwear brand Pelé Sports for use in its Trinity 3E football boots.

Trinity 3E boots weigh only 170 grammes each, but offer high levels of protection against injury, the sports brand says. It quotes studies from the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany that it says show the Trinity 3E to allow faster movement compared to other high-performance boots.

The design team worked with Formula One engineers “to strip away all unnecessary weight”, Pelé has said, and every material was selected for its lightness, functionality and durability. The PebaxFoam, a closed-cell, crosslinked foam based on the Pebax thermoplastic elastomer from Arkema, is used in the sockliner of the boot.
