Salvadoran textile firms eye the US

10/05/2012

A number of Salvadoran textile and garment companies participated and shared their experiences at the recently held annual meeting of American Apparel Producers’ Network (AAPN) in Miami, Florida.

The companies that participated in the AAPN meeting were Darlington Fabrics, George C. Moore., CS Central America, TExOps, Unifi, Apparel Production Services (APS), Pettenati and ProDept.

The firms are promoting best practices and have made changes in their business culture to adapt themselves to World Trade Organization (WTO) and US standards, and thus benefit the Salvadoran textile and clothing sector.

George C. Moore and Darlington Fabrics have helped increase the capacity of the Central American region to locally source elastic tape and stretch fabrics used by companies that manufacture innerwear, sportswear, medical orthopaedic clothing, industrial and military uniforms and high-performance swimwear, said Dana Barlow, CEO of The Moore Company at the meeting.

Last year, the El Salvadoran textile and apparel exports rose by 20.5% year-on-year to $8.2 million.
