New Nike football boot reduces weight with PebaxFoam

A new lightweight football boot from Nike, the GS Green Speed, uses PebaxFoam from Croydon-based Zotefoams in the insole to keep the weight down.

Weighing in at just 160 grammes, the boot is the brand’s lightest ever football boot.

PebaxFoam, a new, high-performance, thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) foam, offers wearers a thermoformed insole, good energy return and high levels of flex fatigue performance. According to Zotefoams, the material is three times lighter than conventional EVA foams with similar cushioning properties.

It is a closed-cell foam material, expanded using pure nitrogen and without the use of potentially hazardous chemical blowing agents. Zotefoams says its nitrogen saturation foaming process is more environmentally friendly than traditional foam technology.
