Adidas takes the long road towards finding next CEO

Herbert Hainer will remain as the chief executive of sports group adidas until 2017, the company has announced, giving it time to choose his eventual successor carefully.

Mr Hainer’s current contract was due to expire next year, but adidas has asked him to stay on for a further two years. He has been at the head of the company since 2001. Adidas said it wanted its next chief executive to come in during 2017 as it will be a quiter sporting year than 2016, in which Rio de Janeiro will host the Olympic Games, and 2018, in which Russia will host the FIFA World Cup.
