Indian textile firms seek to boost trade with Colombia

05/03/2014
A delegation representing the Indian textile sector travelled to Colombia at the beginning of March to build stronger relationships with partners in the South American country.

Twelve textile industry leaders from India made the trip and they emphasised that their aim was to find ways to work in partnership with textile manufacturers in Colombia rather than to compete with them.

In the course of the last three years, bilateral trade between the two countries has grown from just over $1 billion in 2010 to almost $3.9 billion in the first 11 months of 2013.

The most important component of this trading relationship is India’s imports of Colombian oil, but the most important product imported from India into Colombia is cotton. Cotton represents 95% of India’s total exports to Colombia.
