REI is a $2 billion company

Outdoor clothing, footwear and equipment group REI has reported sales of $2 billion for 2013, an increase of 5.9% compared to the figures for 2012.

REI, which currently has 131 stores in 33 states across the US, operates as a co-operative, with an estimated 5 million outdoor enthusiasts taking a $20 membership that entitles them to share in the company’s profits.

“I’m proud of the results our teams produced in this dynamic retail environment,” said chief executive, Jerry Stritzke, on announcing the results. “We are working hard to enhance the connection we have with our members and customers.”
