Adidas claims victory over Nike in dispute over patent for Flyknit
Sources in Germany, including a blog run by the organisers of the ISPO exhibition, say adidas has won a legal battle concerning knitting technology for footwear uppers.

The Federal Patent Court in Munich has ruled that Nike’s European patent on knitting technology for footwear uppers, for which it filed at the time of the launch of its Flyknit idea, is obsolete and is to be removed from the German register of patents.

Two years ago, on the eve of the London Olympic Games, Nike tried to prevent rival sports brand adidas from marketing its own version of knit technology footwear, Primeknit.

Adidas has argued that the knitting technique is far from innovative because the first constructions of this type were presented as early as 1940.
