US sportswear group Nike has highlighted its Nike+ Training Club App as one of its most important innovations of last year and has released an update for 2015.

The app has been downloaded 16 million times in 94% of the world’s countries and is available in 16 languages.

It says it helps people stick to their mission, delivering customisable workouts, multi-week programs and motivation from trainers, celebrities and athletes.

Its other top five innovations for the year were: Flyknit for football boots; the Pro Rival Bra, which was developed with experts at Loughborough's sports research facilities in the UK; the Vapor Iron golf clubs; and the Kobe Bryan Flyknit basketball boot.

"Nike Flyknit debuted in running footwear in 2012 but its potential is massive. The groundbreaking shoemaking technology showed its versatility last year," said the company.
