Recycled car-parts helmet and self-lacing boot among ISPO winners
28/01/2015
The six best products from the action, outdoor, ski, performance and Asian segments are named ‘Product of the Year’, with runners-up taking gold awards.
The outdoor product of the year is La Sportiva’s G2 SM, a two-layer boot for extreme mountaineering. It features a honeycomb tech midsole and uses Cordura for strength.
Asian product of the year is Treksta’s Hands Free 103 GTX, a foot-activated ZeroTie lacing system. Featuring IceLock, a rubber sole with electrostatically charged micro-glass particles, the shoe is also suitable for icy and slippery conditions.
This year’s Eco Achievement award goes to Picture Organic Clothing for its Hubber Helmet, whose lining is made from recycled EPS (expandable polystyrene), sourced from Japanese car manufacturers. The helmet’s shell is made of PLA (polylactic acid), a polymer made from sustainable corn.
Brands taking gold awards this year include Patagonia, Billabong, Fjallraven, Sherpa, Eider, Hagloffs, Arc’teryx and Houdini.
