Recycled elements give Europa’s stretch denim an edge

Italy-based denim manufacturer Europa has launched a new stretch denim using yarns from Japan’s Asahi Kasei Fibers that reportedly offer excellent stretch properties, good dyeability and exceptional colour fastness.

However, it is the ‘green’ qualities of the yarn and its manufacturing process that make it stand out, according to the company.

The new Roica EF yarn is GRS and OEKo-Tex Standard 100 certified, and is produced using a process that results in savings of raw materials and energy as well as the reduction of CO2 emissions.

Roica uses 50% pre-consumer recycled materials, the waste materials derived from the production of the polymer.

“Those raw materials were burnt or sent to landfill in the past,” explains a spokesperson. “We recycle them with special know-how for achieving the same character and quality as standard spandex. We do not throw away or burn polymer loss, instead we reuse. The GRS certification is the proof that Asahi Kasei technology really works well.”
