Nikwax claims latest product ‘outperforms’ PFC-based rivals

Waterproof coating manufacturer Nikwax is launching an updated product, which it claims has outperformed PFC-treated hydrophobic down for the first time.

The treated down passed the IDFB Hydrophic Shake Test from the International Down and Feather Testing Laboratory, withstanding over 1,000 minutes of shaking in water.

“We’ve shown that it’s possible to make high performance waterproofing with a minimum environmental effect,” said founder Nick Brown (pictured in sleeping back).

The UK-based company will present the development at the OutDoor Friedrichshafen trade show in Germany (July 15 to 18).
