New ‘insulation fabric’ unveiled in Italy
08/09/2015
Thindown, a “feather fabric”, is owned by Nipi (Natural Insulation Products) and will be made for European customers from a factory in Italy.
Created by Canadian Ron Reuben, the company says the technology allows a uniform distribution of foam and anticipates that by next year, production will reach 300,000 metres of fabric and the demand will create 200 jobs.
Nipi has signed an agreement with feather and goose down company Molina for the feathers. Molina has been mixing natural down with synthetic or natural fibres for over 30 years, developing a process that creates a highly homogenous blend. One if its newly developed products pairs natural down with silk (see WSA July/August 2014, Thermal solutions explore new territories).
Nipi will present Thindown at Milano Unica show from September 8 to 10.
