China: new environmental legislation provides textile opportunities

06/10/2015
Stricter environmental legislation in China will provide “significant opportunities” for exhibitors in one of the special zones at the Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics exhibition, which takes place from October 13-15.

The special zone, one of five at the event, is caled All About Sustainability, reflecting what organiser, MesseFrankfurt, called the current search on the part of textile producers in China for ways to reduce the environmental impact of their manufacturing processes.

Amendments to the Environmental Protection Law, which came into effect at the start of 2015, gave greater powers to local authorities to impose fines on companies they perceive as having a poor environmental performance.

In total, 4,600 exhibitors will take part in Intertextile Shanghai.
