The Italian Trade Agency has produced a government-funded video to highlight innovation in the textile industry.

Alberto Paccanelli, president of the technology platform for the Italian textile and clothing industry, said technical textiles account for €3.5 billion in annual revenue, employing 42,000 people in roughly 800 companies, totalling around 12% of Europe’s textile turnover.

Outside of Italy, technical textiles are also developing quickly, with nearly 30% of textile materials produced designed for technical applications.

More than 120 Italian manufacturers produce machinery for technical products, with a turnover of €400 million, accounting for 15% of total revenues for the Italian textile machinery sector, according to machinery association ACIMIT, which helped to produce the video.
