Biometrics and bioluminescence gather momentum for textile developers
Big-brand supplier Far Eastern New Century (FENC) has launched a smart textiles platform, FERMI (Far Eastern R&D Manmade Intelligence), which includes a sensor-equipped band coated with a non-metallic conductive polymer.

A ‘plug and play’ module can be installed in any garment to provide various monitoring functions, including heart rate.

“We’ve made it as rugged and easy to integrate as a textile ought to be,” said Eric Huang, a senior vice president of FENC.

This was among highlights at the Taiwan-based textile show Titas, which WSA visited to bring readers a round-up of the latest developments for the sports and outdoor markets.

Bioluminescence and light-emitting concepts were also high up the agenda.

Read the latest WSA, available as an ezine, for a full round-up from Titas, Italian show ITMA, Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics and the Hong Kong-based WFSGI Manufacturers Forum.
The issue also contains a look at the wool insulation fabrics challenging synthetics, a profile of Nau, a closer look at women’s football, a report on a new perspective on green technology, and more.

Pdfs of all WSA articles are available for £1 from the Technical Library for non-subscribers (The Jan-Feb pdfs will be uploaded next week, and the issue will be available in print before January.)
