Wool goes sporty at Pitti Uomo

The Wool Lab Sport presents two “inspirational themes”, said The Woolmark Company, a subsidiary of
not-for-profit enterprise Australian Wool Innovation, in the build-up to Pitti Uomo.
In the first of these themes, Sport Active, wool fabrics and yarns with the highest levels of performance, mixed with technical fibres “to ensure the best results during physical activity”, will be on show.
Materials on display will include 100% virgin wool, as well as wool-elsastane, wool-polyester, wool-polyurethane, wool-polyamide and wool-nylon blends. Structures and patterns will include wool wadding and ripstop. Fabrics include jacquard knit, single jersey, fleece and mesh.
Sport Stylish is the second Wool Lab Sport theme. It focuses on the role of merino wool as “a fundamental element of the classic wardrobe of the most refined and exclusive sports such as golf, horse-riding, sailing and polo”, The Woolmark Company said.
Here, materials will include 100% virgin wool, and blends comprising wool-silk, wool-modal, wool-Tencel, wool-elastane, wool-polyester, wool-polyurethane, wool-linen-polyamide, wool-nylon and wool-cotton. Structures and patterns will include Melton, plain, diagonal, Panama, denim, classic tailor patterns and ripstop, with fabrics in Jacquard, ribs, single jersey, Milan stitch, mesh, piquet and fleece.
