Outdoor Retailer visitor numbers flat but awards draws record crowds
Salt Lake City-based Outdoor Retailer has closed after four days of networking and order taking, with organisers saying visitor numbers of around 22,000 were flat with last year.

Some visitors to the show suggested it felt quieter than last year, which could have been attributed to the moving of the show dates (from mid to early January).

The sixth annual Outdoor Inspiration Awards, presented by adidas Outdoor, celebrated “those that inspire others to participate in and support outdoor activities and the outdoor industry”.

Winners included: Alpenglow Sports in the retail category; Andy Janicki and his Wheels to Waves as the individual winner; Big City Mountaineers for non-profit; Jackie Timmins as the Boy Scouts Youth Winner; and LifeStraw, taking top recognition for a manufacturer.

Adidas Outdoor presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to the late Skip Yowell, founder of JanSport and an industry icon.

The celebration drew the largest crowd in the event’s history.
