Bergans’ molasses jacket gets thumbs up
Early feedback on a jacket partially made with molasses, a byproduct of sugar production, is “very positive”, according to organisers of ISPO Open Innovation.

The Bergans of Norway coat, made in collaboration with Japanese textile group Toray and its Ecodear range, is made of 30% plant-based polyester.

Thirty consumers, through the online platform offered by ISPO that connects companies with testers, were able to test the jacket and were reportedly impressed by the water and windproof characteristics.

Other bio-based products on show at Ispo (January 24 to 27) include a ski helmet made of a polymer sourced from corn plants and old automotive cockpits, from new company Picture Organic Clothing.
