Nike has hired its first chief digital officer in a bid to “serve consumers’ complete athletic experience”.

Adam Sussman will lead digital products and services across Nike.com, Nike+ and Brand Digital platforms, reporting to Trevor Edwards, president of Nike Brand.

The company says it views digital as a "vital accelerator" towards its goal of reaching $50 billion in annual revenues by 2020.

“Digital offers a fundamental transformation of our business, as we create an industry-leading digital ecosystem that flows through all that we do,” said Mr Edwards.

Rival New Balance has been vocal in its pursuit of digital gains, buying related companies and setting up a digital division in 2015.
