Healthy Seas net recycling increases threefold in 2015
The Healthy Seas initiate, which collects ghost fishing nets from the oceans and turns them back into nylon 6.6, has announced it recycled 110 tons of nets in 2015 – up from 31 tons in 2014 and 20 tons in 2013.

It teamed up with Italian yarn manufacturer Aquafil in 2013 to turn the nets into socks.

“Those 110 tons of fishnets we sent to the recycling plant would otherwise have been incinerated or even worse, continued ghostfishing for many more years, killing large numbers of animals,” said the organisation.

“We are delighted about it and very much motivated to make 2016 even better.”
