Responsible Wool Standard open for second round of reviews

06/05/2016
Non-profit organisation Textile Exchange has released a second draft of its Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) for public stakeholder review, giving all interested parties the opportunity to give input into the standard.

Textile Exchange said at the time of the announcement that it also wants the standard to “deliver value to the wool industry”.

It is intended to be “a global benchmark for animal welfare and land management practices in sheep farming”, the organisation added, and a tool for recognising good practice on sheep farms around the globe.

Another objective is to build communication and understanding among farmers, consumers and brands.

The review will run until June 3. A first round of stakeholder reviews has already led to RWS being “revised significantly”, Textile Exchange said, to become more clear and concise.
