Sympatex to sponsor European Space Fashion project
10/05/2016
Sympatex will join the ESA technology transfer programme (TTP) and other organisations within the industry to sponsor the event which allows students to combine innovative functional textiles with state-of-the-art space technologies in order to explore the future of fashion. The results of the project will be presented at the Science Museum in London at the end of May.
The young people from top European fashion schools in Paris, London, Milan, Copenhagen and Berlin are being asked to create designs that take inspiration from space technologies and missions. Each fashion school has a theme around which to base their design. These include technology and the environment and innovation, health and nutrition.
“We have set them the task of developing everyday fashion inspired by Alexander Gerst’s “Blue Dot” mission. At the same time, the topics of earth observation and climate change must also play a role,” said Rosita Suenson, ESA Project Coordinator.
“We think that the environmentally-friendly functional textiles from Sympatex are particularly appropriate to the theme of our project and are very pleased that we have managed to get Sympatex on board as a materials sponsor,” she added.
