Italian textile machinery manufacturers record domestic growth

Italian textile machinery makers saw a 3% year-on-year increase in orders in the first quarter of 2016, according to a survey conducted by the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT). This result came on the back of an increase in domestic orders in the period from January to March. Orders from foreign market dropped slightly, however.

ACIMIT president Raffaella Carabelli was pleased with the encouraging recovery in the Italian Market. “The ACIMIT survey has certainly highlighted a positive moment, which is also a consequence of what was witnessed at the last edition of ITMA, held in Milan last November. Many Italian textile manufacturers have returned to investing, thanks above all to the support provided by the current Government, with measures that promote the acquisition of machinery,” she said.

She was less positive on foreign markets, saying that the global economic situation could result in a difficult 2016 for the industry. Uncertainty over the recovery in China and a slowdown in Bangladesh, significant investors in 2015, were also expected to negatively impact overseas orders.
