Timberland to use fabric from responsible manufacturer

The Thread Ground to Good fabric has up to 50% recycled PET from plastic bottles found in streets, canals and neighbourhoods in the two countries. The Thread initiative also provides jobs for nearly 3,600 people in the developing world as well as training and micro-loan programmes.
"We are beyond excited about partnering with Thread. From the moment we met them, we knew this had the potential to be far more than a supplier relationship,” said Colleen Vien, director of sustainability for Timberland.
“Building community has always been at the heart of Timberland, and we were also inspired by the Haiti connection, given our work there over the past five years. Any time we find an opportunity to create both environmental and social value, that's a big win. And Thread does just that,” she added.
Timberland has already worked on a project in Haiti which saw the company plant five million trees and create a self-sustaining agroforestry cooperative that helped improve the lives of 3,200 smallholder farmers in the country.
