Wearable sensor developer secures funding

12/07/2016
Stretchsense, a New Zealand-based developer of wearable sensors, has secured Series A funding from Start Today, the owner of Japan’s largest online store for apparel and accessories. The value of the investment has not been disclosed.

Stretchsense has developed a range of soft sensors capable of measuring pressure, stretch, bend and shear, which can be woven into most kinds of fabric. The company has provided these sensors to more than 200 partners in over 28 countries but this deal could see them made available to a much wider audience.

The funding from Start Today will allow Stretchsense to expand its marketing, sales and support capabilities abroad as well as upgrade its production and research facilities in New Zealand. The partnership will also give Stretchsense the opportunity to access Japan’s lucrative e-commerce retail market.
