Drop in overseas sales hits Italian textile machinery manufacturers

01/08/2016
Italian textile machinery manufacturers saw a 7% drop in sales in the second quarter of 2016 due to a fall in overseas orders, according to the latest survey by the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT).

Overseas sales dropped 8% compared to the same period in 2015 but there was a 3% increase in orders from the domestic market in Italy.

ACIMIT president, Raffaella Carabelli, blamed “underlying political uncertainty” for the drop in Italian machinery exports. He pointed to recent events in Turkey and Bangladesh, which he said would have “repercussions on an economic level”.
