Lenzing to expand Tencel production
Botanic cellulose fibre manufacturer Lenzing is to invest more than €100 million by 2018 to expand productions capacities for its plant-based Tencel fibre.

Lenzing CEO, Stefan Doboczy, said approximately 70% of the total investment will be used to increase capacity at its Heiligenkreuz factory in Burgenland, Austria. The remaining funds will be used to improve operations at its production site in Lenzing.

“Given the strong market demand, this expansion will help our customers in their growth plans as well as expanding our global market leadership position for specialty fibres,” he said.

Speciality fibres currently account for 41.7% of Lenzing’s revenue, but the company wants to increase this share to 50% by 2020. The planned expansion will increase capacity by 35,000 tonnes, with 10,000 tonnes available by the end of 2016.
