Under Armour previews sportswear collection
16/08/2016
The brand announced in June that Mr Coppens would be designing its line of casual sportswear items for everyday use. The range was expected to follow the style associated with the trend of “athleisure” but the first preview has offered some surprises.
“There are athletic references and functional elements in the clothes, like magnetic closures and bonded seams, but this isn’t athleisure,” Mr Coppens says.
The UAS collection includes a parka, a tailored sports coat and leggings, as well as the RLT Fat Tire Boot, a high-top style featuring a leather upper and the Fat Tire outsole developed for Under Armour by French tyre brand Michelin.
“It’s not common for a sports brand to go into suiting, chinos, and oxfords, but those are basic items that aren’t going anywhere,” said Ben Pruess, Under Armour vice president of sportswear. “They just needed a fresh take.”
The collection will be available from September 15 at various high-end US fashion retailers, online and at Under Armour brand houses in New York, Boston and Chicago. The full uAS range will be shown at New York Fashion Week (September 8-15).
