Bergans to close North American subsidiary
Outdoor brand Bergans of Norway has announced it will close Bergans USA, the subsidiary responsible for its sales, marketing and distribution in North America since 2012.

The closure forms part of a restructuring of the company’s international distribution which it says will allow it be more focussed on strategic growth on other regions, including Nordic countries and Western Europe. Bergans will also shut down sales subsidiaries in the UK, France and Canada, while its Russian subsidiary will become a distributor.

"During the last nine months, the management team and board of directors of Bergans evaluated the future of the brand, its core values and made strategic decisions to facilitate successful future growth for the company," said Bergans CEO, Leif Holst-Liæker.

"The more focused approach to markets, products and brand building will enable us to improve our offerings to both consumers and retailers, as well as further strengthening Bergans internationally," he added.

Keith Patterson, president of Bergans USA, expressed his disappointment at the decision, but said he “understands and supports the company’s decision to exit certain markets to build for the future growth of the brand”. He believes this will make Bergans stronger in the long-term.
