Six new contributors join ZDHC

Six new companies have joined the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) programme,  committing themselves to the goal of zero discharge of hazardous chemicals in the textile and footwear value chain.
 
ZDHC now has the support of 56 signatory brands, value chain affiliates and associates. Its key tools include a manufacturing restricted substances list (MRSL), chemical guidance sheets and wastewater guidelines.
 
“Responsible hazardous chemical control is complex, and demands a holistic approach,” ZDHC executive director, Frank Michel, has said. “It’s not enough to use one standard or tool; industry collaboration, from all actors across the value chain, is essential to drive this agenda forward.”

Joining the programme as value chain affiliates are certification bodies ICEC and TÜV SÜD, Sri Lanka-based apparel manufacturer MAS Holdings, and Thai specialty chemicals company Siam Pro Group.

New associates are the Fibre and Textile Chemicals Technology division of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), and certification body Oeko-Tex.
