Nike designs sports hijab for Muslim athletes
08/03/2017
The Nike Pro Hijab was created to address the lack of comfortable performance headwear available to Muslim women. It is made with a breathable “power mesh” fabric, and will come in two sizes. It is expected to be available to the public in 2018.
"The Nike Pro Hijab has been a year in the making but its impetus can be traced much further back to Nike's founding mission, to serve athletes, with the signature addendum: If you have a body, you're an athlete," the company said.
Nike worked closely with figure skater Zahra Lari, the first skater from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to skate internationally, and weightlifter Amna Al Haddad, also from the UAE, during development of the product.
