Former GM man to guide innovation at Under Armour

Sportswear brand Under Armour has appointed Clay Dean as its chief innovation officer.

His key responsibilities will include driving Under Armour’s global vision and strategy for innovation, and overseeing the collaboration between the company’s internal design, marketing, product, and category management teams. He will report to Kevin Haley, Under Armour president of category management and innovation. 

Mr Dean arrives at Under Armour following 20 years with auto manufacturer General Motors. He most recently served as the head of the company’s Global Advanced Design division. 

“At Under Armour, a relentless pursuit of innovation is at the core of everything we do,” explained Mr Haley. “Adding Clay’s proven expertise further validates our commitment to meaningfully advance our ability to bring category-defining products and technology to our consumers.”

He paid tribute to Mr Dean’s “deep roots in design, manufacturing and innovation”, describing them as critical to guiding how Under Armour manufactures and delivers products in the future.
