In a press release, ICAC said that high prices in 2016-2017 have encouraged farmers to plant more cotton this season. However, it warned that the average yield is expected to decline by 2% to 761 kilos per hectare, which is in line with the average over the last four years.
India’s production is projected to grow by 2% to 5.9 million tonnes, while production in China could reach 4.8 million tonnes in 2017-2018 as area expands by 3% to 3 million hectares after five seasons of contraction.
