15/02/2018
Chemical group Arkema has announced an investment plan to increase by 25% its production of polyamide 12 polymers, which it markets under the commercial name Rilsamid.

The 25% increase in capacity will come from expansion at its production facility at Changshu in China and Arkema expects it to come on stream by mid-2020.

Arkema said on making the announcement that it plans to invest “several tens of millions of euros” in the Rilsamid expansion project and that high-performance sports shoes, including running shoes and soccer boots, are among the finished product applications it hopes to address.

It also said this expansion in production of polyamide 12 polymers, which are non-bio-based, wil complement its production bio-based polyamide 11.

Regional president of Arkema’s technical polymers business in Asia, Julie Zhang, said on making the announcement that the project will bolster the company’s presence in Asia and confirm its commitment to “supplying global customers locally”.
