Lenzing seeks to protect its latest innovation

06/12/2018
Austrian fibre group Lenzing has announced its has filed 25 patent applications with the World Intellectual Property Organisation for its Web Technology.

They cover product, process and application inventions and form part of the company’s wider intellectual property protection strategy.

Lenzing Web Technology is a non-woven web formation that starts with wood pulp and results in a non-woven fabric made of 100% continuous lyocell filament. The group has said it offers a “unique self-bonding mechanism” which sees filaments bond into a fabric during the laydown process. This is said to allow for a wider variety of basis weights, surface textures, drapeability and dimensional stability than other non-woven technologies.

Upon making the announcement, Lenzing CEO Stefan Doboczky said: “The new Lenzing Web Technology is one of the most exciting research & development projects. The 25 patent applications related to this new technology underline our commitment to the non-woven industry.”
