IAF calls for harmonisation in supply chains

The president of the International Apparel Federation (IAF) has repeated calls for industry cooperation to reduce audit fatigue and lessen fragmentation in the supply chain.

Han Bekke made the comments at the 14th edition of Prime Source Forum this week in Hong Kong.

He said: “There is absolutely a must to improve the performance of our supply chain in terms of social, safety and environmental conditions under which we make and trade our products.

“The way it is done though is not efficient, with many national or regional initiatives, different codes of conduct, standards and different audit systems. This leads to many avoidable costs in a sector where margins are constantly under pressure.”

He urged companies to support the International Textile Manufacturers Federation and the Social and Labour Convergence Project.
