Chiruca to turn to sports fashion for growth

24/04/2019
Spanish outdoor footwear brand Chiruca has said it will seek to produce sports fashion shoes for urban wear in an attempt to achieve further growth. Parent group, La Rioja-based FAL, made the announcement on releasing Chiruca’s results for 2018.

Its revenues for last year were €13 million, an increase of 4% compared to the figure for 2017. However, this is still short of the revenue levels that Chiruca achieved in the build-up to the economic downturn that began in 2007.

It said 70% of its sales still come from the technical hiking boots and walking shoes that it is best known for, but it said new growth is more likely to come from sales to people who go into the outdoors only occasionally, at best, and will wear Chiruca footwear at work or in town.
