NASS: 2020 Cotton acreage down 11% in the US

US cotton planted for 2020 is estimated to be 12.2 million acres, which is down 11% from 2019, according to planted acreage reports from the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).

In addition to cotton numbers, the NASS report includes findings on corn, soybeans and wheat, following a survey of nearly 71,000 farm operators during the first two weeks of June.

According to the report, Upland cotton is estimated at 12.0 million acres, down 11% from 2019, and American Pima is estimated at 195,000 acres, which is down 15%. Of the Upland cotton, 96% of planted acres are biotech varieties, which is down 2% from last year.
