New insulation technology for textiles from 3M
Advanced materials developer 3M has said it intends to bring a new insulation technology for textiles, Thinsulate Xerogel Insulation, to market in the coming months.
According to 3M, the product will offer warmth under compression, a lightweight construction and breathability. It said 60% of the material the product uses will be from post-consumer waste and that the technology will be easy for mills to apply.
Thinsulate Xerogel Insulation has a porous structure, it pointed out, but it said this would inhibit air circulation and make the material “an excellent thermal insulator”.
