Skims stretches to outfit Team USA

Kim Kardashian West’s “solutionwear” (shapewear) brand, Skims, described by Euromonitor as having spearheaded the rise of “leisurie” last year, recently announced that it has partnered with Team USA for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Skims will therefore officially outfit all female US athletes in its underwear, loungewear and pyjamas for the duration of the tournament, which is due to take place between August and September.

Ms Kardashian West made the announcement via an Instagram post, paying tribute to her stepfather, Caitlyn Jenner, who won gold in the decathlon at the 1976 Olympics.

“Ever since I was 10 years old, I’ve heard every single detail about the Olympics from my stepdad,” she said. “When I received the call inviting Skims to be a part of Team USA, every moment I’ve spent admiring the strength and energy of the Olympians from the sidelines came full circle.”

In a separate press release, the Skims founder added: “[Team USA’s female athletes] are incredible role models for younger girls, including my own daughters, showing them that anything is possible if you work hard enough.”

Skims’ Olympic collection will be made available for purchase by non-Olympians in July.

It has not yet been confirmed whether the garments will be produced in the US. Skims products have typically been manufactured elsewhere previously, in countries such as China and Turkey.
