BlackYak and TK Chemical expand K-rPET ecosystem

Seoul-based outdoor brand BlackYak recently signed a multilateral agreement with South Korean fibre producer TK Chemical and drinks company Sansu Beverage, designed to broaden its recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) feeder base for its domestically produced K-rPET fibre, also marketed as Ecolon.

BlackYak and TK Chemical have previously worked with Korean mineral water company Sparkle on a similar initiative.

In this instance, Sansu will reportedly provide the fibre producer with high-quality transparent waste plastic bottles, which TK Chemical will then transform into K-rPET, ready for BlackYak to make into clothing and accessories to be sold as part of its Plustic (a portmanteau of the words plus and plastic) range.

“BlackYak and TK Chemical have [again] joined hands so that transparent plastic bottles from eco-friendly certified bottled water may be reborn as eco-friendly recycled products,” a spokesperson for the outdoor company said.
