GTT’s water repellent finishes classed PFOA/PFOS-free
Testing agency Bureau Veritas has verified Textiles finishes producer Green Theme Technologies’ Empel platform contains no PFOA/PFOS.
Fluorinated compounds are used in the processing of textile products to add functionalities such as oil and soil repellency.
However, the fluorine-based water repellent agents used for general processing contain perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), an impure substance which is hard to break down due to its stable chemical structure, and there have been concerns about the negative impact of its accumulation in the body and the residuals in external environment.
GTT’s water repellent, anti-wicking and stain release is used by brands including Black Diamond, TREW Gear, Stoney Creek and Artilect, and others are undergoing testing with the products.
GTT CEO David Andreas said: “Since we opened for business in 2017, we’ve been gaining momentum and we anticipate 2022 will be a year of strong growth.”
Last summer, the company raised $3.5 million in a Series B fundraising.
