Representatives from Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) travelled to the US to meet hemp processor Panda Biotech to accelerate the use of the fibre in the country.

BGMEA president Faruque Hassan said the clothing industry had made tremendous strides over the past years to integrate sustainability, and wishes to provide consumers with eco-friendly apparel.

He added that the industry was looking to shift away from traditional cotton and that hemp could be a perfect complement fibre.

Industrial hemp is a regenerative crop due to its ability to grow with little water, minimal-to-no pesticides and herbicides, and has a high yield.
