Footwear brands choose plant-based midsoles

Footwear brands Kodiak, Timberland and Vans have partnered Evoco, a Canadian cleantech start-up, to use its “eco-foam” alternative in their shoes.

The Feats insoles and midsoles are up to 80% plant-based, and USDA and GreenCircle certified.

The material uses plants and biomass as the feedstock and the company claims the performance matches that of polyurethane.

Jason Robinson, CEO and founder of Evoco, said: " Our mission is to close the loop on unsustainable goods for good; meaning that our brand partnerships need to reflect our commitment to creating a sustainable impact on culture and climate today, and for future generations."

Brands CAT, Keen, and Merrell are also working with Evoco’s foams.
