Finnish biomaterials developer Spinnova has appointed Teemu Lindberg as executive vice-president to manage the scaling up of its production and new factory projects globally.

Mr Lindberg joins from forest industry group UPM Kymmene, where he was refining director in the UPM Biorefining business, and held several production and technology management and specialist roles in its UPM Biofuels business.

Spinnova is expanding rapidly and in March secured a new site in Jyväskylä, opposite the factory it is already building to produce Woodspin. Woodspin is a joint venture between Spinnova and Brazil-based pulp producer Suzano to make textile fibre from microfibrillated cellulose from wood pulp.

Janne Poranen, CEO of Spinnova said: “Production upscaling is a critical component of our ambitious growth targets that include reaching a million tonnes of global Spinnova fibre production capacity by 2031 to 2033.

“Mr Lindberg's experience and expertise in scaling industrial processes will support Spinnova’s growth plans greatly.”

Mr Lindberg added: “I am privileged to be joining Spinnova at this pivotal moment when Spinnova’s sustainable technology innovation is entering its industrial scale growth phase.”
