Lululemon latest to offer hijabs for sports
Canadian activewear and performance footwear brand Lululemon has introduced hijab head coverings for exercise and lifestyle pursuits.

Currently, the company is offering both a pinless, lightweight and drawstring-adjustable performance hijab to fit under tops and a more versatile, scarf-style article in a jersey fabric. The former is available in two sizes in both black and blue colourways, complete with reflective details, whereas the latter is a one-size garment in a dark heather grey.

Lululemon’s sweat-wicking and quick-drying, four-way stretch Luxtreme textile with added Lycra elastane fibre supplies the workout hijab with its functional properties. It is 81% nylon and 19% elastane.

Meanwhile, Noble Biomaterials’ X-Static antimicrobial technology provides the brand’s Silverescent fabric, used for the lifestyle scarf, with the ability to inhibit odours from sweat, due to the application of 99.9% bonded silver to the surface of every fibre. The scarf’s fabric composition is 57% polyester, 37% nylon, 3% Lycra elastane and 2% X-Static nylon, according to the Lululemon website.

The Vancouver-based brand told reporters that it had sought input from global “hijab wearers” to offer distraction-free garments for multiple athletic and day-to-day activities.

Earlier in June, Lululemon announced a 32% year-on-year surge in its first-quarter fiscal 2022 net revenues, supported by revenue growth of 32% and 29% year on year in North American and international markets, respectively.

The company ventured into footwear for the first time this past March.
