China: nylon conference held in Shengze
The textile town of Shengze, part of the Chinese city of Suzhou, hosted a gathering of nylon industry stakeholders in late July, jointly organised by China Textile Information Center (CTIC), China Textile Development Center and domestic nylon producer Fujian Jinjiang Technology (Yongrong Jinjiang).
Supported by China Fashion Technology Innovation Alliance, the intention behind the meeting was to foster sustainable competition when it comes to nylon products, a Yongrong Jinjiang spokesperson said. It followed representatives’ four-province, nine-city tour of manufacturers from the sports, outdoor and underwear segments between June and July, which sought to investigate and record innovative applications and developments in nylon fibre, according to local media.
Deputy director of CTIC’s science and technology department, Wang Xinli, delivered a keynote speech which covered nylon’s history, current issues with development and future trends in the field, among which a greater diversity of nude shades and the engineering of more cotton-like surfaces were reportedly suggested.
Breakout sessions ensued among attendees such as Decathlon, 361 Degrees, Puma and Peacebird. Performance properties from stretch to moisture absorption and protection against ultraviolet radiation were all discussed, while concerns about biobased and biodegradable nylon were also shared and relevant knowledge exchanged.
The conference was one of several events which took place during the tenth Shengze fashion week.
